The objective with this code of conduct is to nurture and protect the community and members of shesaid.so. The organization is committed to cultivating a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, education, socio-economic status or level of experience, and other protected categories.
Community members are expected to proactively support and preserve the creation of a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment within the shesaid.so ecosystem (online and offline).
shesaid.so is a global community consisting of women, gender nonconforming people and allies from all sectors of the music industry. Our mission is to connect and empower underrepresented communities towards a more equitable music industry for all. We take pride in having built a safe and authentic space where all women and gender nonconforming individuals in music are able to take up equal space in the room and feel safe and supported to do so.
Our commitment to the code:
shesaid.so does not tolerate harassment of our community in any form. shesaid.so takes violation of our policies seriously and will respond appropriately to such violations.
Goals of the Code of Conduct
The intention with this document is to give shesaid.so community members trustworthy guidelines around how to behave within, engage and improve our community spaces (online & offline). The code provides a guide and a process by which we interact and hold each other accountable.
Below there are lists, which are not exhaustive, of what can and cannot occur within our community. This is, however, an invitation for you to move towards being your best self - whether that be within our community or outside of it in the wider society. By doing this you help us to build a community that is safe, inclusive and collaborative for all.
What we expect from you:
All members of shesaid.so must abide by the following policies:
- Give something before asking for something - This is our golden rule. We expect our members to offer something to our community before asking for something, whether that be industry advice, a discount/promo code, opportunities, or simply showing support to other members.
- Be inclusive - We welcome people from all backgrounds and identities into our community. Please avoid making assumptions about others based on their appearance, name, or any other information you may have about them.
- Use inclusive language - Our community welcomes people within many underrepresented communities who are discriminated against frequently. Please be aware of language that could ostracize members of our community. If you wish to educate yourself further on inclusive language and other topics within intersectionality, please read our Intersectionality Guide. You are also welcome to ask the shesaid.so team for other resources that can be provided.
- Be constructive - We’re here to push each other forward and lift each other up. Find ways to help each other think bigger, reframe challenges, and stay curious.
- Accountability - Hold yourself and others accountable if mistakes are made. It’s okay if mistakes are made, we should be cooperative and kind with those individuals and explain how their words or actions were harmful. However, we encourage members to stay firm in holding accountability, as this will only strengthen the individuals understanding and enrich and maintain the well-being of the community.
- Treat everyone with understanding, patience and respect - When engaging with fellow members, maintain open, thoughtful and honest dialogue, whilst being mindful of different points of view and experiences.
- We value collaboration, diversity, inclusion and community - To be a member of shesaid.so, these should be values that you too align with.
- If safe to, address (and disclose with the shesaid.so team) inappropriate behaviour and comments that are discriminatory, harassing, abusive, offensive, or unwelcome.
